TO THE READER:

This book is not to be used to replace the reading of one’s Bible. It is a study guide, not a commentary. Its intended use is to be an assistant to one’s own reading and studying of the text. The goal of this book is to assist in a thorough and complete understanding of the accounts, commandments, and historical data found in the Book of Genesis.
In an undertaking of this kind there are many definitions necessary for words, both from the original Hebrew and English. The English words defined in this book all come from the King James Version of the Bible. I used three main dictionaries to assist with such work. They are: Brown-Driver-Briggs’ Hebrew Dictionary, Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary, and Webster’s 1828 Edition Dictionary. All three dictionaries are electronic versions, so giving specific page numbers is impossible; however, the ability to cross reference and check definitions should still be relatively simple. With the high volume of definitions included in the book, I did not include the precise book reference at the end of every definition. It should, however, be concluded that Hebrew definitions were taken from Brown-Driver-Briggs unless otherwise noted; I found this source to be, by far, the most helpful during the course of my studies. All English definitions are from Webster’s Dictionary unless otherwise noted.
I tried not to reference commentators as a general rule, as I believe that the Bible is its own best interpreter, but there are a few occasions where the works of others were used because of a very clear assessment of a given word, phrase, or situation. On those occasions the source of the material is cited. All other statements are my insertions based upon Biblical context, statement, and definition.
